Clash of Cultures

Clash of Cultures is a big, exuberant civilisation game by the Danish designer Christian Marcussen. The game enjoys great international success and is regarded by many reviewers as the best in its genre.

Like so many other civilisation games, it is played on a game board of different terrain tiles, where each player starts with a small city. From there they have to expand, conquer and develop their civilisation. At the heart of the game is each player’s personal technology tree, which makes it possible to tailor a civilisation exactly as desired. With 48 different technologies in 12 different spheres, there is ample opportunity for players to put their own stamp on their civilisation.

The game ends after a fixed number of turns, and the winner is the player with the most points. Points come from a wide range of things, but the most important source is the hidden mission cards that the players must carry out to score. They work very well at driving the game forward and forcing the players to interact with each other.
