Crash Octopus

Can you collect all your cargo before the octopus drags you down into the deep?

Crash Octopus is a race to collect cargo floating around in the sea, all while you are surrounded by a gigantic, fearsome octopus. The first player to collect all five types of cargo wins.

The sea is marked out by a string, within which the octopus, your ships and the various pieces of cargo are spread out. On your turn you may navigate – this is done by using your flag to flick your anchor in a chosen direction and then moving your ship to the anchor. You may also flick the various pieces of cargo towards your ship. If you hit the ship, you may load the piece onto it. If you miss, your turn is over.

But watch out – every time a piece of cargo is picked up, the octopus becomes more aggressive and may attack. When the octopus attacks, each player in turn takes the die and drops it over the octopus’s head – so that it may knock over the other ships, making them lose their cargo, or move the beast’s tentacles into their way.

A very fun and tactile game from the Japanese publisher Itten. Itten is known for their quirky games with very nice wooden components.
