A tricky box with two layers – can you find the mechanism that opens it?

Karakuri boxes are based on the traditional ‘secret boxes’ from the Hakone Odawara region of Japan. Each box opens with a unique mechanism, invented from scratch by Karakuri’s designers. Some are simple, while others take several steps of pushing, shaking and turning. Every box is carefully cut and assembled by hand.

The box has a cavity that is ideal for hiding a small gift.
