Onitama is an excellent, award-winning two-player game in which the available moves differ from game to game, giving high replay value.

Each player sets up their 5 pieces on a board of 5 x 5 squares. Two face-up cards showing the player’s possible moves are then placed in front of each player, along with a fifth, shared card that cannot be used until the following turn. On their turn, each player chooses a card, carries out the move shown and places the fifth card in the now empty spot, so that it is available to the opponent. The other player does the same on their turn, placing the fifth card – which is now the card the opponent used earlier – in the empty spot. The game continues like this until one of the players manages to capture the opponent’s starting piece.

Onitama is a real brain-teaser, where the fact that the cards are open to both players means the element of luck is all but eliminated.
