In Santa Maria each player establishes and develops a new colony. This is done by placing building tiles on your colony board. Dice are then used to activate the buildings (the dice represent workers), and it is important to consider where and in what order you place and use your dice. During the game you produce resources, establish new shipping routes, send Conquistadores out on raids and gain religious influence so that you can recruit monks. The player who has gained the most happiness after three rounds wins.

Santa Maria is a very varied game that can be played again and again. It also works well as a solo game.
