For anyone looking for a new chess challenge, or simply something different from ordinary chess. Three-player chess can be played in several ways, but the most common is free-for-all, where the winner is the first player to checkmate one of the others.

Three-player chess is more than a gimmick. It is a genuinely interesting variant that calls for new strategies and makes players rethink classic openings and familiar moves. With three at the board there is a psychological side too: it is no longer only about protecting your own pieces and taking your opponent’s, and it can often pay to protect one of an opponent’s pieces.

The set consists of a wooden chessboard and wooden pieces for three players. It is nicely detailed and folds in the middle. The underside is lined with red felt and stores the pieces. Available in two sizes. English rules are included.
