Agricola (Danish)

In Agricola you and your fellow players are farmers in the 17th century. You each start out with a small wooden hut and a plot of land, and from there you have to build up a well-functioning farm.

Agricola is a big and merciless game in which the fear of not having enough food for the family is constantly in the background, while you have your hands full extending and renovating the house, sowing new crops, bringing in the harvest and fencing in pastures for all the farm animals.

At the beginning there is only you and your spouse on the farm, and it can of course be hard to make a farm work with so few hands. Fortunately there is time during the game for family growth, and so for some children who can help out. But be careful. The children need food too, and after every harvest the food supply is tallied. If there is not enough, the family has to go begging.

Agricola requires keeping many balls in the air and is therefore only for players who are not afraid of a challenge. Fortunately the game also comes with a family variant, which removes some of the more complex parts of the game and is good to start with.

Agricola is extremely popular and is regarded by many as one of the best games on the market.
