Coimbra

In the Age of Discovery, Portugal’s largest cities are flourishing: besides Porto and Lisbon, this is especially true of the city of Coimbra with its famous university.

As head of one of Coimbra’s established families, you have noticed that the growing prosperity also brings a growing sense of insecurity among the city’s citizens. So you have hired your own army of guards to provide protection for the city’s most influential scholars, council members, merchants and clergy. That way you can earn favours from the city’s leading figures.

There are many paths to victory. But whether you choose to increase your wealth, hire new guards, foster scientific breakthroughs, cultivate your relations with the surrounding monasteries or support voyages of discovery, you can only win if you manage to see the shifting synergies that arise in each new game.

In addition, the tense contest for Coimbra’s most helpful inhabitants is ensured by a special form of dice drafting and dice placement, in which each die you choose determines not only the turn order and how much it costs you in bribes, but also how much income you receive.
