Dixit (English)

Dixit is a fantastic game for creative and inventive players.

At the heart of Dixit are the 84 unique cards with beautiful and imaginative illustrations.

Each player holds 6 cards in hand, and players take turns being the ‘storyteller’. The storyteller chooses a card from their hand and says a sentence based on the illustration on the chosen card. There are no rules for what may be said; only the imagination sets the limit. Anything is allowed.
The other players then also choose a card from their hand that fits what the storyteller has said. The chosen cards are shuffled together with the storyteller’s card and placed face up in the middle of the table.

All players except the storyteller must now guess which card is the storyteller’s. Points are awarded as follows:

• if nobody OR everybody guesses the right card, the storyteller gets 0 points and all other players get 2 points.
• if the above is not the case, the storyteller and all players who voted for the storyteller’s card get 3 points.
• All players get 1 point for each vote their card receives.

It may sound more complicated than it really is, but the idea is simple: the storyteller must be neither too obvious nor too vague in describing the chosen card, and that is exactly where the game becomes really interesting.

Dixit has won a host of awards and is easy to get into. The game is also an obvious choice for a unit on fairy tales in Danish lessons, or for a unit focusing on creativity.
