Lawyer Up is an asymmetric game for two players, in which one takes the role of prosecutor and the other that of defence counsel in a courtroom. Each story has its own mechanisms and storyline, which can be anything from murder to art theft to extortion.

Each player has their own deck, and to begin with players go through a discovery deck, assessing which evidence is important to them, what they can give to their opponent, and what should be buried. Players then take turns calling witnesses, on whom they play cards by chaining a series of symbols together; all to convince the jury that their side is the right one.
