Mechanical Beast is a tile-laying/manipulation game in which the players are an exploration team of engineers who, together with their android helper, must explore the inside of a giant robot. The aim is to find its control room and deactivate it. In the first part of the game the labyrinth grows as it is explored, until the switch is found. For the rest of the game the rooms collapse around the team, who must quickly find the exit before the robot shuts down and traps them inside for ever. The layout of the rooms can be changed using the cogwheels found along the way. The players win by getting everyone out of the robot, including the people they find trapped in there.

The game can be played solo, as a cooperative game or competitively with up to 4 players.
