Mountain 53 (Japanese)

In Mountain 53, first published as Ab in die Tonne, the players have to throw rubbish in the bin. Unfortunately they are all a bit lazy, and instead of emptying the bin when it is full they are content to stack everything as high as possible, hoping that someone else will knock it over and have to clear up the mess.

Before the game begins, each player takes a set of cards numbered 1-10, and the forty pieces of rubbish – milk cartons, cans, bottles and apple cores – are placed next to the bin.

In each round the players secretly choose one of the three cards in their hand and then reveal them simultaneously. In order from the lowest number to the highest, each player places as many pieces of rubbish as the number they revealed in – or on – the bin. A player who makes the rubbish mountain collapse receives a penalty token and then empties the bin, after which the next player in that round starts with a clean bin. Anyone who places the last piece of rubbish in the bin without knocking anything over receives a bonus.

The game ends once the sixth penalty token has been handed out, and the player with the fewest penalty points wins.
