Draw a card from the pile and read the question aloud to the other participants. If the card is marked red, you have to answer yourself; if it is green, you pass the monkey on to one of the other players.

If time runs out before you manage to answer, or if you answer wrongly, then you are the one left ‘holding the monkey’, quite literally. It means you have lost the round, and you must move your piece anticlockwise the number of spaces shown on the card. The game ends when a player lands on the loser’s space. The player who is closest to the start space at the end has won.
