Sonar is a family-friendly version of Captain Sonar that can be played with only two players, but is definitely best with four. The game is a fight over who can wreck the other side’s submarine, and the first team to deal the opponent two damage points wins. The game contains four pairs of sea charts, and each team has the same charts for each player. With four players, each player has a role: captain or radio operator. With two players, each has to handle both roles at once. While sailing, the captains announce which direction they are heading, and the opposing radio operator uses this information to try to plot on the chart where the opponents are. If that succeeds, their team can fire a torpedo at the opponents. The sonar can also be used to see whether it reveals anything on the seabed. Can you locate the enemy submarine? It is hard, because the enemy may have hidden and switched off the engines … or risen to the surface.
