Tortuga 1667

The year is 1667 and you are a pirate on the Caribbean Sea. A Spanish galleon is approaching, and you and your crew have decided to plunder the Spaniards. What you have not told them is that you have no intention of sharing the treasure with them.

They say they are loyal to you, but you have heard whispers of mutiny in the corners. You know you cannot trust any of them. In Tortuga everything is about knowledge and communication. From turn to turn it can change whether you gain most from putting your trust in your crew, in yourself or perhaps even in your enemies. No player has cards of their own, so you will have to trust each other about what is hidden under the shared event cards lying on the table – or not. Unless you are desperate, the cards should not be flipped blind, as almost half of the cards can harm you.

You should nearly always try to get a look at the card first or rely on information from a trusted fellow pirate. By knowing where the harmful cards are hidden, you can force an enemy to flip them and suffer the consequences. In addition, you can vote on attacks, mutiny and brawls.

The most successful players in Tortuga 1667 are those who, through careful planning, opportunism and well-considered communication, end up with the largest share of the treasure. Although the box says that Tortuga 1667 can be played by two players, in our opinion you should not be fewer than 4.
