VAESEN is a horror role-playing game set in 1800s Scandinavia, on the border between reason and superstition, where creatures from Nordic folklore roam the fringes of the civilised world.

The players take the roles of people born with the ability to see things. You know that vaesen live among us and have done so for centuries, but the uneasy peace between humans and vaesen has shifted. On journeys to remote villages and desolate regions you encounter vaesen, but bullets and steel have no effect on them, and only by understanding them can you learn their weaknesses and drive them away. Meeting vaesen leaves scars, however, that never quite heal.

The VAESEN rulebook covers everything needed to start playing, from rules and character creation to a description of the mythic North and an introductory adventure. The game is inspired by the paintings of Johan Egerkrans.

VAESEN uses the Year 0 Engine rules system. It is a flexible and easily accessible rules system that uses 6-sided dice.

The game is in English.
